Standard Gray- This is the most common color and also the color that is found in the wild! This color is defined by the non-uniform gray shading along its back, head and sides and a clear crisp white stomach.

Beige- The next most common color is beige. This color is defined by an un-uniform tan color on the top, and again a clear crisp white belly.

Homozygous Beige-Creamy in color with a white belly.

Mosaic-This chin is white with gray patches.

Pink White- White all over with pink ears and red eyes (albino)

Velvets- There are black and brown velvet chinchillas. They are solid black (or brown) on top with a crisp white belly. They are characterized by having "bracelets" on the tops of all four feet (again either black or brown). You can see the bracelet on the babies front foot pictured on the left.

Violet-A solid almost lavender in color on top with a crisp white belly

Violet Wrap- This color is similar to a violet, except it is the violet color all over, there is no white belly

Ebony Whites- various combinations of black and white. This is my favorite color because no two can ever be alike! It is different than a mosaic because of the darkness of the spots, instead of gray they are black

Beige White-Similar to Ebony white, but instead of black spots, they have brown spots!

Ebony- There are many different shades of ebony. Ebony color is darker than a standard gray and has no white belly. They can be characterized as either heterozygous ebony which are black on top but are a lighter gray color on the sides or homozygous ebony which are pitch black all the way around. A homozygous ebony is pictured at the left.

This is an example of a heterozygous ebony.

Tans/Chocolates- These are very similar to ebonies except they are brown. Tan is a chin with a dark brown top but lighter brown sides, whereas a chocolate is a deep rich brown everywhere. A chocolate is pictured to the left.

This is an example of a tan.

Sapphire-this is the newest color mutation. They are very similar in appearance to the violets, however, as opposed to having a uniform "lavenderish" shade, they have a bunch of different shades of "lavender" mixed around on the top with a clear white belly.

There are many colors and variations that are not pictured here!
